Independent Researcher
David Pollak
David originated and has led the BCARAS research concept from its inception. He developed the initial survey and case-control study design, obtained IRB approval, and led online recruitment and data collection involving more than 700 women. He has continued to advance the project by developing the research framework, coordinating collaborators, and moving the study toward broader clinical validation and publication.

Chelsea Lopez-Pugh, PhD
Former NASA Lead Scientist & Technical Writer
Chelsea is an experienced research scientist and technical writer who will assist with editing and preparing BCARAS research articles for journal submission. She previously served as a Lead Scientist and Technical Writer at NASA and as a Research Scientist at the University of Miami, where she authored multiple first-author scientific publications, a doctoral dissertation, and a textbook chapter. Her background also includes scientific manuscript development, data analysis, technical communication, and laboratory research.

Michael Abdelmasseh, MD, MPH, PMP
Harvard-Trained Clinical Researcher & Medical Writer
Michael is an experienced clinical researcher and medical writer with more than 10 years of experience in academic publishing, clinical trials, study design, and scientific communication. He has contributed to more than 60 publications across oncology, colorectal surgery, public health, and related fields. He completed Harvard Medical School’s Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program with a concentration in clinical trials. Michael has assisted BCARAS with study methodology, scientific review, manuscript development, and preparation for peer-reviewed journal submission.

Reza Omid, MD, MPH
Physician, Medical Researcher & Clinical Partnerships Advisor
Dr. Omid is a physician and medical researcher with experience in clinical research, oncology, translational medicine, and scientific publishing. His background includes work involving prostate cancer, clinical trials, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, dermatology, and medical AI. He holds an MD and MPH from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and is pursuing advanced training in medical imaging and artificial intelligence at the University of British Columbia. For BCARAS, Dr. Omid will focus on developing partnerships with GERD clinics, breast cancer centers, physicians, and research organizations to support study recruitment and future clinical research collaborations.

KT
Global Oncology Clinical Development
KT is an experienced clinical development professional with a background in global Phase 3 breast cancer trials, study design, medical data review, and regulatory processes. For BCARAS, he will focus on outreach and partnership development with clinics, physicians, and research organizations to support study recruitment and future research collaborations.
BCARAS is an exploratory research initiative. Preliminary findings should not be interpreted as establishing that acid reflux causes breast cancer or as a recommendation to alter medical screening or treatment without guidance from a qualified healthcare professional.
